Frequently asked questions.
Practical information for planning an LP release or vinyl mastering. Prices shown here are in KRW and include delivery in Korea under the stated conditions.
Costs and orders
How much does LP production cost?
For 1,000 copies of a 12-inch 180g black record, the price is KRW 8,200 per record, or KRW 10,800 with a single sleeve. This includes lacquer cutting, stampers, five test pressings, label printing, polylined inners, air freight, import clearance and delivery to one location in Seoul/Gyeonggi, Korea; VAT and mastering are extra. See the quote calculator and price list in Korean for other specifications; overseas delivery is quoted separately.
What is the minimum order for vinyl pressing?
The minimum order is 500 copies. Tell us the format, colour, packaging and quantity so we can quote your project.
How are 2LP and 45 rpm projects priced?
For 2LP, we calculate pressing and cutting for the number of discs together with the packaging specifications. For 45 rpm projects, please send the tracklist and running time per side. Select the LP count and sleeve in the Korean quote calculator; we confirm speed and side layout with you.
Does a repress of the same album cost less?
If the existing cutting and stampers can be reused, those costs are removed and the unit price is lower. We check reuse availability, quantity and specifications before quoting. Website prices are for new productions.
Specifications and printing
How much music can fit on one side of a vinyl record?
For a 12-inch record at 33⅓ rpm, up to 18 minutes per side gives the best scope for sound quality, and up to 22 minutes is generally workable. Longer sides can affect cutting level and sound quality. We have worked on sides as long as 27 minutes when necessary, accepting lower level and reduced low end. As sides get longer, cutting level may fall and inner-groove distortion can increase, so we plan the running order and side layout together.
| Format | 33⅓ rpm | 45 rpm |
|---|---|---|
| 12-inch | About 18 min (22 min generally workable) | About 12 min |
| 10-inch | About 12 min | About 9 min |
| 7-inch | About 6 min | About 4 min 30 sec |
What is the difference between 140g and 180g vinyl?
The records differ in weight and thickness. A 180g record feels heavier, but weight alone does not determine sound quality. We consider the audio, side length and cutting conditions alongside the physical specification.
Which vinyl colours are available, and how much do they cost?
There are 198 MPO colour samples, with Classic and Limited base price tiers. Marbled, Splatters and Bio add KRW 500 per disc to the Limited price; Marbled + Splatters and Crystal add KRW 1,000. Choose a colour and its MPO code from the colour catalogue to check the corresponding quote in the Korean calculator.
Can you print sleeves and inserts, including printing in Korea?
Sleeves and inserts can be printed at MPO as part of the project. If you prefer printing in Korea, please contact us. We confirm the packaging specifications, transfer schedule and costs separately.
Timing and audio
How long does LP production take?
Allow about one month from receipt of the materials to test pressings, then about two months from approval to delivery in Korea, roughly three months in total. Timing depends on the production queue, file readiness and approval. Our schedule calculator in Korean works backwards from your release date; overseas transit times are confirmed separately.
How many test pressings are included, and how do I approve them?
Five test pressings are included in the production price. Main production starts after the actual records have been listened to and approved. We agree the criteria and approval deadline in advance, and Proper Sound helps assess the test pressings.
Is vinyl mastering always necessary?
Every project includes an audio review; mastering is carried out only when needed. We also accept mastering-only projects for records pressed at other plants. See our vinyl mastering page for the review process.
Delivery and responsibility
Are shipping and customs clearance included?
The production prices on this site include air freight from France to Korea, import clearance and delivery to one location in Seoul/Gyeonggi. Other regions or multiple delivery locations cost extra, and VAT is excluded. Delivery outside Korea is quoted separately for the destination.
What happens if there is a manufacturing defect?
If a manufacturing defect requires a remake, Proper Sound takes responsibility for the remake and shipping again. We also manage the risk in transit. Contact Proper Sound if a problem occurs.
What kind of pressing plant is MPO?
MPO has been making vinyl in France since 1957 and pressed more than 14 million records in 2025. With over 30 presses, it is France’s largest vinyl plant and presses records for Warner, Universal and Sony. It has held ISO 9001 quality certification since 1998 and is recognised as a French Living Heritage Company (EPV).
Can you deliver records to Japan or other countries?
Please tell us the destination country, address, quantity and target date. We confirm shipping, customs terms and costs separately for each destination. You can reach us through the contact page.
